My daughter will tell you that my tears come easily while watching a moving movie scene or video. Sometimes, the tears start before my brain has even grasped what emotion is coming forth. . It’s not just sad moments that turn on the faucets. Sometimes, it’s tears of joy. .
A few weeks ago, a video came across my way via facebook that brought me to that point once again. I don’t always watch the videos in my feeds but this one drew me in. As I watched it, the tears flowed. I cried for Meredith and I cried for me. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a better illustration of God’s unconditional, passionate love for us.

As I watched Meredith fall upon her (now) mother’s lap crying, I couldn’t help but cry with her. How do you possibly grasp that someone would choose you, with all your past pains, your imperfections and future human foibles, to be your child? This couple chose a girl who had been greatly hurt and bears emotional scars from those that betrayed her. She will consume a young family’s financial, emotional, and energy resources. At her age, it’s possible that Meredith had come to a realization that she would never be adopted. She would never be claimed as “my child.” Yet, this couple demonstrated in the most tangible way, what it means to be truly loved-unconditional, unearned love.
Love
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
1 John 3:1
I don’t know about you, it’s hard to wrap my head around that kind of love. I strive daily to respond to that love, to let Jesus consume me. Yet, I am reminded as the day goes on, and my imperfections become blatantly visible, that God’s love surpasses human understanding. Our attempts to love each other on Earth are just a taste of what is offered to us. It’s a big thought. Can you simply say “Thanks” today?
