Longings may come to fruition in ways and seasons.
My family traveled to a Cenote area in Mexico. These naturally forming pools formed thousands of years ago reside throughout the Mexican Terrain. Nestled in the midst of towering palm trees, and the residences of small native creatures, they offer a glimpse of God’s artistic hand. Some are located in caves, with the magical stalactites hanging in formations that almost appear as a warm winter wonderland. I never guessed I would witness it first hand.
I stepped into the crystal clear teal water, surprised by its cool sensation on my skin. The only way to fully immerse myself into its wonder, was to leap. I watched the bobbing heads of others in my group, including my own family. They swam around in a state of joy and whimsy and I wanted in. With no steps leading gradually into the water, I prepared to jump. However, as I propelled forward, my mind flashed backwards.
Several years ago, I wrote a piece about a woman not known to me who spoke into my life. https://stephaniejthompson.com/archives/817. Among the many aspects of her life that inspired me, this line seemed to sum it up well: “She jumped fearlessly into pools deep in caves.” I remember looking up pools in caves and was mesmerized. Because what they are and what she did both remind me of the way all of creation speaks life into one another.
Back then, fully unaware I would experience it for myself, I wrote, “Plunging your physical and emotional being into something so beautiful, majestic, and yet unknown takes courage. Courage that manifests itself in every part of your life.”
So, in a surreal moment I arrived here, in this place and in this experience that spoke to me through the life of a woman I never met. If you can take great leaps into these amazing physical creations by our God, surely you learn to not let fear become a blockade. You see the other places that you are called to leap into-and you do it. You do it because you know that, in the end, the experience will be worth it, for you and for those with whom you cross paths.
I reiterate what I wrote several years ago: “I want to be known for jumping fearlessly into pools in caves.”

Wow! What a beautiful spot. Did you take the picture?
This is a stock photo because we didn’t take our cameras (I wasn’t convinced the waterproof phone cases would do their job lol). But we swam in four of them and this picture is very similar to two of them.
I think that’s a great manta — “I want to be known for jumping fearlessly into pools in caves.” I say, go for it! Visiting from FMF #26
Thanks for stopping by! I will keep the vision in my mind.
Thank you!
Thanks for reading and commenting. I’m glad it spoke to you.
